THE BRIDGE PROGRAM

The Bridge Pre-orientation program is a multi-dimensional program designed to welcome first year and transfer students who identify themselves as "students of color" into the larger Smith community of scholars and friends.

Like all other pre-orientation programs, Bridge participants are able to experience the college a little bit earlier than other new students. Its participants are paired with Smith student leaders and encouraged to explore their expectations (and anxieties) about college life in a series of interactive activities. It is an exciting environment for students of color to engage in lively discussions as well as examine issues that are of particular relevance. Recent seminar topics include How I Got to Smith and How Smith Got to Me, Women of Many Colors, (Un)Speakable Truths, and Sister to Sister.

The program also has a playful side. Evening excursions have been known to include bowling, roller-blading, and visits to local eateries and ice cream shops. Strong cross-cultural friendships and future campus leaders emerge from this award-winning program.
